Penang Deputy Chief Minister II Dr P. Ramasamy had also slammed the organisers of the run for being “insensitive” by holding the event yesterday —the same day as Thaipusam.
The organisers were the Tanjung Social Club and Penang Forward Sports Club.The report said that despite the controversy, some 100 Indians took part and three out of the seven categories were won by Hindus.
R. Muniandy, 35, from Sungai Petani, who won the Men’s Open category, said it was not an issue that the run was held on the same day as Thaipusam.National marathon record holder K. Baskaran, 41, who was the Men’s Junior Veteran category champion, hoped that in future the run would not be held during a festive period.
