More self-checkout counters soon at FairPrice
SINGAPORE - Expect to be able to scan, pack and pay for your purchases on your own at more NTUC FairPrice supermarkets, as the supermarket chain prepares to roll out more self-checkout systems, in a bid to improve productivity and service levels.
Up to eight of its more than 90 supermarkets will be equipped with the system - already in use at FairPrice Finest at the new Clementi Mall - by March next year.
FairPrice will also install an electronic price labelling system in two of its stores by March next year, which will allow it to optimise its manpower, saving at least 50 man-hours a month - the amount of time a store typically spends manually printing and updating prices.
Last year, FairPrice said it was upgrading its warehousing, inventory management and point-of-sales systems to support Singapore's productivity growth, as well as strengthening service culture for higher service productivity.

Pekerjaan tidak disangkal akan terhad, malah ia akan terhapus disetengah setengah bidang. Cashier umpamanya.
Maka beralih la sumber pekerjaan ke bidang lain.
Berlumba-lumba anak muda akan mengambil kursus Office dan Supermarket Automation. Masing-masing akan berlumba menjadi pakar Automation. Lahir lah bidang yang baru.
Kepada yg terus tercicir akan mencari pekerjaan yg lain.
Salah satu objektif utama Supermarket luar masuk di Malaysia adalah atas dasar menambahkan pekerjaan rakyat Malaysia. Tesco umpamanya.
Jika Office Automation berlaku, maka objektif telah lari. Maka menteri bersangkutan Foreign Direct Investment terpaksa lah berfikir objektif lain supaya bermanafaat kpd skop objektif pekerjaan rakyat.
